It is becoming increasingly difficult to get the attention of employers because of the volume of applications that are often received for each job. This is why, now more than ever, it is important to stand out from the competition. Using effective buzzwords in your application is one proven way to do this.
How can you make sure your CV is not missed?
There are many common but generally desired buzzwords and phrases that clinical employers look for in CVs and cover letters. You could include keywords such as teamwork, problem solving, taking initiative or coping with change.
Whilst it is highly worthwhile including these in your application, it is important to be aware that most employers also look for buzzwords that directly match the job description and showcase specific competencies, techniques and experience.
For example, clinical quality assurance job descriptions might mention standards such as GCP, PV, CS or GLP. Alternatively, a regulatory affairs role might require experience with CTA/MAA or knowledge of regulatory strategy, labelling and artwork. Or, if you are applying for medical affairs roles, you may need to know about advisory boards, KOLs or ABPI.
Recruiters frequently utilise job boards to search for suitable candidates and use keywords in order to seek out those with the right experience and knowledge. If your application includes the desired buzzwords, you are more likely to be found and accepted for roles.
