It was reported much in the media last week that the 34 year old Finnish Prime Minister had announced plans for Finland to implement a 4 day and 6 hour working week. These news reports were met with much excitement although the Finnish government have later said that they do not have any plans currently.
In a speech on the subject the PM did say “A four-day workweek, a six-hour workday. Why couldn’t it be the next step? Is eight hours really the ultimate truth? I believe people deserve to spend more time with their families, loved ones, hobbies and other aspects of life, such as culture. This could be the next step for us in working life.”
The idea of a 4 day working week is certainly starting to become popular with early adopter organisations around the UK starting to trial it. There certainly are lots of arguments for and against the idea.
Last year we discussed the pro and cons of a 4 day week in a blog article, if you are interested take a quite look at the article here.
