Takeda in Talks to Buy Genzyme

iStock_000006963239Medium[1]As reported by the Wall Street Journal, the Japanese pharmaceutical company Takeda, is currently in talks to but the U.S based biotechnology company, Genzyme in a deal worth more than $18.5 million.

Genzyme employs 11,000 staff worldwide and has been of interest to another of large pharmaceutical companies including GlaxoSmithKline, Eli Lilly, Pfizer and most notably Sanofi Aventis who launched a hostile bid last month at $69 per share.

It has been reported that Takeda is willing to pay $82 per share for the business, a spokesman from the company stating “The firm is actively looking to expand in the U.S. and would have no problem financing the deal.”
