As a Medical Science Liaison the main purpose of your role will be to provide non-promotional scientific and clinical support for the UK business.   • Be cognisant of, and agree to adhere to Company and Medical Directorate SOPs and Guidelines
  • Accountable to Head of Clinical Affairs and indirectly to UK Medical Director.

Qualifications and skills:

As a Medical Science Liaison you will have the following qualifications, skills and experience

  • Life Science degree, preferably PhD, Biochemist, Biologist, Chemist or Pharmacist
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry, preferably in a field based liaison role, is desirable.
  • Experience in therapeutic area desirable

Key responsibilities:

 The main responsibilities as a Medical Liaison Manager will be:

As Therapy Head Advisor you will be working with the brand teams doing cop approval work. The position will focus around providing supporting data and medical writing activities. Experience in Oncology therapy area would be beneficial.

Further responsibilities of this Therapy Area Advisor position will include:

  • Support the appropriate medico-marketing teams in all areas of activity as necessary, including provision of marketing and product support e.g. Business Planning, developing promotional materials, attending meetings, inputting into NICE/SMC submissions
  • Support production of NICE/SMC submissions as required
  • In conjunction with the Medical Managers and MLMs, provides back up product support to relevant external groups when required e.g. KOLs; specialist nurse meetings
  • Provide support for product issue management e.g. assists in the production of Dear Doctor letters
  • Prioritise and reviews product specific activities to ensure the value MI brings to the business is maximised
  • Provide input into development of the Brand key messages and strategy, to sign off documentation as part of the copy approval process in a timely fashion; and to identify where breaches of ABPI code occur
  • Support development of the brand key messages and brand strategy, and use this knowledge when giving advice and approving/producing materials
  • Support copy approval by undertaking detailed, thorough and minute checking of materials – data accuracy checker including accurate references, factual assertions, typos and grammar
  • Act as the originator or approver on Zinc for MLM generated materials as necessary
  • Informs the Manager of the Therapy Area Advisors when the Active Materials list needs updating and when expired items need withdrawing from Zinc
  • Disseminate information to internal customers including the Brand teams; Healthcare Management and Medical Managers to ensure accurate up to date information is available when making business decisions
  • Design and deliver relevant training on the SPC and standard clinical data for the Training Specialists and provide other relevant training needs e.g. complex clinical data for the Sales Representatives
  • Develop in-depth knowledge on allocated products and maintain a current understanding on new developments in specific therapy area(s)
  • Communicate information to the Medical Information Specialist and Medical Information Quality, Training and Effectiveness Manager
  • Evaluate and adapts any training sessions as necessary to facilitate transfer of learning to the workplace
  • Provide regular updates to the relevant Medical Information Specialist regarding for instance marketing activities; brand strategies and key messages to support the production of up to date Medical Responses/Standard letters
  • Provide back up support to the Medical Information Specialist team when required for the production of medical responses
  • Feed back to the Medical Information Quality, Training and Effectiveness Manager any quality; process or training issues; implements initiatives cascaded down and takes part in quality measures/relevant training
  • All staff to take personal responsibility for ensuring that they maintain high ethical standards in all that they do, and that they comply with all applicable laws, regulations, industry codes and internal policies and procedures

  • Editing, evaluating and approving the materials produced by agencies.
  • Scientific content (core claims) ensuring the data maximise commercial potential.

  • Provide analyses and review of products, therapy areas and competitor products, making recommendations, which assist marketing in the determination of current and future strategic direction.
  • Develop therapy area reviews, product monographs, slide sets, training packages etc. as appropriate to business and customer needs.
  • Input into the defence of complaints made by competitor companies, medical professionals or regulatory authorities against promotional statements or activities.
  • Prepare portfolios of data and input into product submissions for influential bodies such as the National Prescribing Centre, National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE), Scottish Medicines Consortium and National Tenders.
  • Ensure the medical information department is up-to-date on new products/campaigns and commercial issues by leading training and factsheet management and by giving advice on complex issues.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations for sales force training programmes and other materials and briefing sessions, ensuring scientific data and medical concepts are understood and consistent with promotional strategy.
  • Responsible for sending briefing information out to sales force, keeping them up to date with important clinical information on our own and competitor products.
  • May play a key role in preparing tailored responses to support market access issues for a defined product in particular geographical areas/PCTs/hospital trusts etc.
  • Involvement in the Key Evidence Generation (KEG) process to identify data needs and options for generating evidence, including in the planning of clinical trials ensuring that they are aligned to short- and long-term business needs. Help to identify opportunities for the interpretation of trial results for commercial benefit.
  • Develop networks across the UK Company as a whole.
  • Required to input into the longer-term strategy for a disease area e.g. as a member of a disease strategy team.
  • May be required to lead cross-functional teams/projects, including those aligned to key commercial processes.
  • May be required to mentor for other Scientific Advisors.

 

As Scientific Advisor, you will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Science Degree/Professional Qualification.
  • Wide breadth of experience of product at different stages of the lifecycle.
  • Ability to assimilate, interpret and disseminate scientific data and information company products and their competitors, and to communicate appropriate information to enhance current strategic and promotional activities.
  • Ability to facilitate internal relationships within both the UK Company, and the company as a whole.

The ideal candidate:

To be considered for this Medical Liaison position, you will have the following skills, experience and qualifications::

  • Advanced degree in health sciences (PharmD, M.D., Ph.D. in a medically related field) required
  • Solid relevant clinical or therapeutic experience desired.
  • Masters or Bachelors level degree in health sciences (RN, RPh,PA, Certified Diabetes Educator, NP, etc.) considered if substantial clinical, research or industry (medical/scientific role) experience in relevant therapeutic area is present.
