Responsibilities:

As a Medical Science Liaison the main purpose of your role will be to provide non-promotional scientific and clinical support for the UK business. You will also ensure that all activities and interactions are conducted with regard to all applicable regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, company policies and accepted standards of best practice.

Further responsibilities of this Medical Science Liaison position will include:

  • Provide scientific and clinical support for, and help maintain professional and credible relationships with, key opinion leaders and academic centres
  • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of relevant products, relevant therapeutic areas and the structure and workings of the NHS
  • Deliver credible presentations on scientific matters to physicians, individually or in groups either reactively or proactively
  • Produce and update scientific presentations for assigned therapeutic areas as appropriate
  • Discuss investigator initiated trials and clinical trial details with potential investigators and help co-ordination of clinical investigator meetings
  • Support and present at advisory boards
  • Contribute to the development of brand plans and strategies by providing medical insight and knowledge about the product or disease area
  • Provide field-based support and training to the sales force and other departments as necessary
  • Provide field-based support to assist Medical Information in dealing with enquiries
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements, including the ABPI Prescription Medicines Code of Practice as well as internal processes and procedures for Pharmacovigilance and Regulatory legislation
  • Attend relevant scientific meetings and congresses to keep abreast of new developments and respond to any specific enquiries from healthcare professionals
  • Adhere to the PMCPA Code of Practice for the Pharmaceutical Industry in all aspects of work
  • Comply with statutory requirements and internal processes and procedures for Pharmacovigilance
  • Be cognisant of, and agree to adhere to Company and Medical Directorate SOPs and Guidelines
  • Accountable to Head of Clinical Affairs and indirectly to UK Medical Director.

Qualifications and skills:

As a Medical Science Liaison you will have the following qualifications, skills and experience

  • Life Science degree, preferably PhD, Biochemist, Biologist, Chemist or Pharmacist
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry, preferably in a field based liaison role, is desirable.
  • Experience in therapeutic area desirable

The job:

As a Medical Liaison Manager you will be responding to requests from healthcare professionals for medical/scientific information that will help them to effectively treat their patients with the company products. Experience in Cardiovascular/Neurology/Rheumatology therapy area is preferred. Previous experience in a similar vacancy is required. Territory to be covered will be South West and South Wales.

Key responsibilities:

 The main responsibilities as a Medical Liaison Manager will be:

  • Reporting to the Regional Business Leader you will be part of a Regional field based leadership team, responding to requests from healthcare professionals for medical/scientific information that will help them to effectively treat their patients with the company products
  • The information provided maybe within the terms of the marketing authorisation or within the category of legitimate exchange of information during the development of a new medicine
  • You will manage the important liaison between the HCP and the relevant internal functions at the company, exploring and identifying opportunities for building partnerships that benefits both parties
  • Being field based you will be providing first line medical support to the local sales team, helping them understand the medical needs of local customers, whilst adhering to the ABPI Code of Practice
  • Naturally, you will ensure that all of your work complies with the company’s and other regulatory and industry procedures and standards, including the ABPI code of practice

Qualifications and skills required:

To be successful in this Medical Liaison Manager role you will have a life sciences degree and/or proven experience of working in a clinical or scientific role within the pharmaceutical industry or the NHS. You will also have a sound understanding of the NHS and the ABPI Code of Practice.

  • You will be skilled at understanding, analysing and interpreting data from clinical trials. Your knack for conveying complex concepts concisely combined with your excellent presentation skills will enable you to translate and communicate that data
  • Your positive and proactive approach combined with excellent communication, inter-personal and influencing skills will enable you to build and sustain partnerships in your locality
  • Planning and project management skills, combined with time management skills, will allow you to optimise and prioritise activities in order to deliver the most efficient service to your healthcare professionals
  • The insight gained by your interactions with healthcare professionals will allow you to proactively contribute to strategic discussions to improve the quality and relevance of the research and data generated by the Company

The job:

As Medical Liaison, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Utilise appropriate resources to stay current with the scientific literature (e.g. conducting regular literature searches and library research)
  • Attend external national and international scientific meetings
  • Meet with peer groups for formal shared learning
  • Facilitate of interactions between medical personnel and external investigators
  • Provide recommendations for investigators based on the researcher’s interests and qualifications
  • Identify opportunities for potential external research collaborations
  • Facilitate aspects of the Investigator-Initiated Trial (IIT) process
  • On a limited basis, participate in clinical trial execution, including study development, initiation and close-out activities
  • Identify key scientific developments, new research methodologies, therapy trends and/or other developments in the therapeutic area
  • Share feedback from external experts including their perspectives on data and medical/scientific concepts, views of the general therapeutic area landscape, and clinical experiences
  • Share learning from publications, external medical conferences and other appropriate channels internally
  • Conduct training on scientific/medical information content at Product Informational Speaker Training events
  • Respond to unsolicited questions in the medical information area of a medical conference exhibit booth
  • Lead/participate in Consultant Meetings
  • Develop and deliver educational presentations in accordance with applicable procedures
  • Serve as author for publications

The ideal candidate:

To be considered for this Medical Liaison position, you will have the following skills, experience and qualifications::

  • Advanced degree in health sciences (PharmD, M.D., Ph.D. in a medically related field) required
  • Solid relevant clinical or therapeutic experience desired.
  • Masters or Bachelors level degree in health sciences (RN, RPh,PA, Certified Diabetes Educator, NP, etc.) considered if substantial clinical, research or industry (medical/scientific role) experience in relevant therapeutic area is present.
  • – Strong knowledge of diabetes or pain or neuroscience
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including capability to engage in professional relationship building and networking
  • Highly motivated and capable of comprehending large amounts of scientific content which is then communicated in a clear, concise fashion
  • Significant direct experience in servicing customer needs for complex information
  • Demonstrated success in self-managing priorities and multi-tasking projects
  • Ability to work effectively and share information within a team environment
  • Advanced presentation skills
  • Expertise in literature identification and evaluation
  • Familiarity with the academic community and the medical research and medical education process

Medical Liaison Required for Established Pharmaceutical Company based in Hampshire, UK

A new opportunity has arisen to join an established pharmaceutical company in Hampshire as a Medical Liaison. You will support key business needs across therapeutic areas based upon the needs of the clinical experts.

The focus of this Medical Liaison role will be to provide a non-promotional scientific information service for external customers, supporting and enhancing the safe and effective use of products, enabling customers to make informed decisions. GMC registration is not required.

The key responsibilities of this Medical Liaison role will include:

  • Catch therapy trends and/or other developments in the specific therapeutic area
  • Share feedback of external experts internally (Voice of the customer), e.g. expert’s impression of clinical data, experts view of general therapeutic area landscape, experts reaction to promotional pieces, experts research interests
  • Share learning from publications, external meetings and other adequate channels internally
  • Play a role in management of product issues
  • Provide recommendations about potential new investigators to Clinical Operations
  • Identifying future national and regional experts
  • Identifying national, sub-national/local influence or advocacy groups for their assigned product(s)
  • Serve as an educational source for Sales Reps, including actively participating in the training of Sales Reps
  • Provide input on development of brand strategies based on knowledge of the specific therapeutic area

The successful candidate for this Medical Liaison job will ideally have a Health or Life Sciences related degree at postgraduate qualification level. You will also have relevant experience of working in a health science or related environment (e.g. clinical research/CRO, pharmacy, nursing or R&D). The following competencies are also desirable:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop working relationships with thought leaders either in a research or pharmaceutical industry setting
  • Demonstrated project implementation and management skills
  • Good presentation, written & verbal skills
