Lonza Group Buys Out Arch Chemicals

Just-style.com has reported on the pharmaceutical company Lonza Group’s takeover of US antimicrobial business Arch Chemicals.

The $1.4 billion deal will see Lonza become the world’s largest microbial biocide company when the deal is concluded in October. The current global market for microbial is around $10 billion and the deal will see Lonza control around 15% of said market, though the sector is growing around 5% annually.

The countries where the market is growing fastest are the BRIC nations, though Europe and the US remain the largest markets. Arch Chemicals’ biggest product is Purista, a treatment protecting fabric from bacteria that produce unpleasant odours.
