GSK’s Andrew Witty receives Knighthood

As reported by The Pharma Letter, GlaxoSmithKiline’s (GSK) CEO, Andrew Witty as been awarded a Knighthood in the UK’s New Year Honours List.

Witty earned his Knighthood through his continued affirmation of GSK’s commitment to providing affordable medicines to developing counties. He has also supported an increased focused on price discounts for the poor and research into an experimental malaria vaccine. Sir Witty also strongly supported the “patent box” and acted as a government advisor.

In addition, Richard Barker, the former director general of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) was made an Officer for the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to the pharmaceutical industry.
