The medical affairs department provides clinical and technical information on a companies products and therapy areas; serving as the bridge between the industry and it’s stakeholders via the medical community. This function is uniquely tasked with managing external relationships with the scientific community as well as with patient groups, authorities and beyond.
Responsibilities are very varied but include ensuing the compliance of both promotional and non-promotional materials in accordance to the ABPI and relevant legislation, running investigator-initiated trials, developing relationships with key prescribers and thought leaders, running medical education events, developing publications and providing training internally and externally.
Medical Affairs operates within a highly matrix environment, effectively linking science and commercial activity. Functions they work closely with include, Sales and Marketing, Market Access, Clinical Trials, Regulatory Affairs and Pharmacovigilance.
