CRA Vacancy Market – 26th May 2014

Each week CK Clinical try to give you a picture of the state of the CRA jobs market.  Whether you are a CRA looking for a new role or an employer seeking new CRAs to join your team, keeping up to date with industry news that impacts you is essential.

Firstly we must apologise for not publishing our survey results last week.  CK were exhibiting at the Outsourcing Clinical Trials and were not able to publish our findings.  However, this week the Clinical Research Associate jobs market is very buoyant in the UK.

Our tracking is based on each week screening some of the UKs leading vacancy boards for how many CRA jobs have been advertised within the last 7 days.  Please bear in mind that there is likely to be some repetition across jobs boards and some duplicate posting but our goal is to build up a picture of trends over time.

This weeks summary is for week commencing 26th May 2014and relates to CRA vacancies posted on:

  • New Scientist
  • Monster
  • CV Library
  • Emedcareers
  • Pharmiweb
  • Willey job network
  • Access ScienceJobs

Our results showed that from these job boards a total of 949 CRA jobs were published last week (which is nearly the highest number in one week so far this year):

  • 791 permanent roles being (vs 634 two weeks ago)
  • 175 contract roles (vs 172 two week ago)

This is an exciting turn of events to see that the CRA market is reaching real heights with such strong demand for CRAs.  This is a trend that we are not only seeing from our market analysis but also from the demands from our clients for both staffing and insourcing of Clinical Research Associates for our recruitment and Outsourcing business units.

The KPMG/REC latest report on jobs released

The latest KPMG/REC Report on Jobs has been released and it makes very positive reading for the clinical science sectors. The pace of growth of permanent vacancies has continued with the increase nearly back to the same number as February’s record figures. The rise in temporary vacancies within the clinical field also has been dramatic, and while not as strong as the permanent side, there is still continued growth. The increased demand for permanent  staff  is a sign of the growing confidence employers have in the current market as are investing heavily in additional resources.

The report reflects what CK Clinical are seeing in the day to day job market with the decline in candidate availability and the fastest growth in permanent salaries since July 2007. As a consequence we are starting to see permanent salaries for clinical specialists rising above inflation rates for the first time in over 5 years. This is what we have needed in the clinical field to help attract new talent into the industry whilst retaining the highly skilled specialists in this field.

The clinical sector is among the fastest growing sectors in the economy, slightly behind science and engineering which is great news for our industry.

If you would like more information on this report or the current labour market contact Liam O Connell at loconnell@ckagroup.co.uk
