Welcome to the Drug Discovery and Development Careers Focus
The pharmaceutical sector is responsible for employing over 70,000 people in the UK and offers a dynamic career that contributes directly to medical care around the world. However, in this industry, there are severe skills shortages and qualified workers are in demand.
We conducted research with job seekers, careers advisors and hiring managers from the top pharmaceutical organisations as well as specialist recruiters. We also used some data from the Bridging the skills gap in the biopharmaceutical industry report issued by the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry. This gave us insight into how job seekers can improve their job hunting activity and how employers could attract candidates during the recruitment process.
The findings of the research are very interesting and indicate that both employers and new entrants are struggling with the recruitment process. For example, one area of the research showed that employers did not think graduates were aware of the job opportunities that are available in the pharmaceutical industry such as Regulatory Affairs jobs and another that organisations did not make job offers quick enough.
From the results of the survey, we have created some useful content and tips to support both employers and job seekers in their recruitment processes.
