Having a great pharmaceutical job doesn’t necessarily mean you will have to sacrifice your personal commitments and social life.
Here are a few helpful tips to help you both succeed in your pharmaceutical industry job and achieve a good work life balance.
Start with the basics
Have a healthy diet, take regular exercise and get all the sleep you need.
Manage your time effectively
Avoid procrastination and get organised. A good way to achieve this is to set some realistic goals and deadlines and STICK TO THEM. At the beginning of each day right a to-do list and prioritise each task.
Have a clear distinction between home and family life
Avoid taking work home and when on holiday.
Learn to say no
Learn to say no to commitments inside and outside of the workplace which you know will not be fruitful. You don’t have to a please everyone all the time.
Switch off
When you leave work, try to switch off. Shut off your email and work mobile to avoid being available 24/7.
Get a hobby
Either with friends or family – This will ensure that you have some quality time just for yourself.
Change you working hours
Most employers within the scientific industry will let you change your work schedule to meet your needs. For example, by starting one hour earlier, you can leave work one hour earlier – enabling you to get home to spend some more time with your family.
Find a new pharmaceutical job
Rather than a change in career, it may be worth considering a different, less stressful job within the scientific industry.
