One of the most valuable ways in which social media can be used in the Medical Information world is to use it to engage with patients through websites.
A good example of this is AstraZeneca’s Patient website. The aim of this site is to give balanced and objective advice to patients, it is not a promotional tool.
Twitter can also be used to engage with patients. For example, AstraZeneca have a dedicated Twitter account for this called @AZHelps. AZ scans the digital world to track what patients are saying about their products and then tweet back with help and information.
Facebook groups are a great way to build a community and get people talking about diseases. It is essentially meeting patients needs to be able to share valuable information with one another.
